Davey Suicide from Hollywood, California
Davey Suicide was about ready to take the stage. A stagehand was working on getting the DMX lighting working properly, swapping a couple of cables to be sure everything was in working order. The great thing about this band besides the lighting is their theatrics.
With the makeup, clothing, and persona, this was one awesome show to photograph. The movements and slight poses they generated was a photographers dream. Getting very awesome shots, under extreme lighting conditions, even though there was a flood of red for the first song. Red is a photographers nightmare, easy to overexpose, focusing metering is tossed out the window, as the camera’s red dots don’t work anymore. I have really focused on getting a good photo in red conditions, and although they are still the most difficult, it has taught me things I can apply in other lighting situations.
After downloading the photos and starting the editing process, I was absolutely shocked at some of the quality images I had gotten. I was shooting sometimes eight brackets underexposed (according to the meter), but it created some amazing top notch photos. Experimentation, I don’t know any other way.
Here are some of my favorites from their set below.
UPDATE: Nikogemini picked up my photo and shared it on his IG account and used it to list their upcoming dates. He gave a nice shoutout to me and TRBC, and his fans had great things to say about the photo!
